Action taken on Oct 1 news: Clear fallen oak blocking trail….. also….layed down leaning (dead) pine at parking site.

5 September: I walked Mill Pond today and there is tree across the trial just before the turn to do the back side of Mill Pond. You can walk under it unless your are tall!! There is also a rotten, broken board on the big bridge across the stream on the back side.

Tree on Rail Trail 400 feet South of Halls Crossing

– 08Oct2026 _ The Trail was cleared to allow free passage of bikers and hikers.
– A workgroup/input will be requested at next meeting for disposition of main tree and branches to retain flow of drainage on both sides of trail.
It is now cleared for users in advance of the upcoming holiday weekend.

As of Oct 1, there were 3 trees fallen across the rail trail between Halls Crossing and River Rd. From south to north, the first one is suspended over the trail at the rock cut. The last one is close to River Rd. All are large–chain saw candidates. I have photos, with embedded GPS coordinates.

Sink hole north of Halls Crossing has been filled. We’re waiting for info from the state about its cause; also about filling the one south of S. River Rd. Small hole north of Halls Crossing, at 11o’clock from the larger one, is also waiting to be filled.
Sink hole North of Hall’s Crossing has been marked with branches and orange cones. Nicole is speaking with the state about their fixing it. We’ll keep you up to date here.
Awaiting reply from the State.
A representative from the State was on site recently to look at the sink hole. He will be back during the week of June 15th with an excavator to do initial repairs and assess whether more extensive work is needed to address the issue in the long term.
